At Gainesville Potter’s House Christian Academy, our goal is to ensure each student not only advances academically but also grows spiritually, socially, and emotionally. Below is a summary of our grade promotion policy.
• Completion of grade-level work in core subjects (Reading, Writing, Math, Science, Social Studies).
• Teacher evaluations on understanding, effort, and participation.
• Testing: Students take the Iowa Assessment yearly to track progress. Passing the Iowa test is not required for promotion, it's for growth monitoring.
• Regular attendance is required to master grade-level standards.
• High School Students: Accumulating 18 or more unexcused absences in a year will result in automatic retention, regardless of grades.
• Excused absences (illness with documentation, emergencies, etc.) do not count toward this limit.
• Students must make up missed work after excused absences.
• Students’ growth is monitored quarterly.
• Parents meet with teachers at the end of each quarter to review progress.
• If a student struggles, a personalized plan will be created (tutoring, extra practice, resources).
• Parent collaboration is vital for student success.
Held after each quarter:
• 1st Quarter: Oct. 21–24
• 2nd Quarter: Jan. 20–23
• 3rd Quarter: Mar. 31–Apr. 2
• 4th Quarter: May 5–8
Extra meetings may be scheduled as needed by teacher or parent. Appointments required.
• Respectful, positive interactions with peers and teachers.
• Responsibility, independence, and readiness for next grade.
• Team decision: teachers, administration, and parents.
• No single test/grade determines promotion.
• Attendance, academics, maturity, and parent partnership all factor in.
